"The body is the harp of the soul."
- Khalil Gibran
The composition depicts a seated back young woman with golden hair playing a harp. Emphasizing the antiquity of this stringed instrument, the author reinforces the conviction of music as a universal language between peoples and different eras.
The artist creates watercolor paintings inspired by femininity as a dynamic interaction of various biological and cultural factors. Passionate about jazz, classical music and tribal fusion dance, Maya loves to explore the bonding between performer, their instrument and the sound & motion as essence of improvisation. Another big theme interprets the sexual aspect of femininity as a set of attributes, behaviors, and roles generally associated with women. The whiplash lines, recalling Art nouveau are gently integrated with some impressionist strokes and different ethno - Afro, Indian and Japanese ornamentation. Flat use of water colors together with gouache, gives the works expressive, colorful and decorative appearance.
